It all began in 1871 when Jan-Leonard Moortgat founded the brewery with his wife in Belgium.  In 1923 at a tasting, the beer was proclaimed to be a real Duvel (Devil) and from that time on has held the name. In the late 60's, the Moortgat brothers decided their unique beer needed a unique glass and created the Duvel glass or tulip shaped beer glass. Fast forward to today where the beer is sold in 60 countries and is still brewed with profound respect for the original recipe and time it needs to mature.
