Victory: Nearly as Tasty as Beer

Brian Golden - Wednesday, October 03, 2012

You likely didn't see the highlights on ESPN, no matter how late you stayed up, but a fine performance was turned in Tuesday night by Hayden's softball team.  There were the usual flashes of brilliance combined with the unavoidable streaks of foolishness, but when the stakes were highest, everyone found a way to come through.

With the first hints of fall in the air, the Sam Adams Bombers, a.ka.a Hayden's finest, closed out their season on a high note, battling through seven innings of back and forth action to bring home a 20-16 victory.  The bats were hot and the beers were cold, and victory sure did taste sweet.  Great to see players from all parts of the Hayden operation unite in their love for one of the few sports that allows you to be ridiculously out of shape and still get away with it.  Nice work on the win!

Big thanks goes out to Coach Josh Gregory for putting up with all the details and keeping the players on the field.  With his role at Hayden changing in the near future, I would imagine the official search for his replacement has begun.  The work is thankless and the pay is nil, but the perks are... well, the perks are nil as well.  Though you do occasionally get to take the wrapper off a new softball...  Any takers?
