Sunday Funday

Brian Golden - Tuesday, March 27, 2012

There were veterans scattered amongst novices, and novices amongst rookies.  There were numerous questions, confused stares and bursts of profanity.  Propane burners, sanitizing tanks and bags of hops littered the workspace as our hearty group of 25 employees came together on Sunday and set about the business of making beer rather than just selling it...

After an awesome turnout for the first (hopefully annual) Hayden Homebrew Competition, five batches of soon to be fermenting brew are stashed away under lock and key, and we must all patiently wait for the yeast to work its magic and for the suds of our labor to be released into the world.  I can't divulge too much, but there are some traditional styles and some wildcards, and even one that should produce enough alcohol to put the space program back in business...

And while I wouldn't suggest camping out at your local brew store waiting for their release, I am confident that our crew will turn out beers to be proud of.  We will know in a few weeks which teams have a gift for turning hops into hooch... so stay tuned for updates from the scoring table!

Thanks to all who joined in, to Morgan from Boston Brewing for his participation and co-sponsorship, and to all the brewing "veterans" who went out of their way to help those of us still trying to find our way in the dark.  Good times were certainly had by all.  Events like these always make me proud to be a part of this company.
