Mission on the Middlefork is in the Books

Dodds Hayden - Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Our 2nd, bi-annual, 6-day escape from civilization was completed last month.  24 sinners were baptized in the holy water of the Middlefork of the Salmon River, deep in the River of No Return wilderness.  Did we receive redemption?  Well, no.  Absolution?  Probably not.  Yes, there was drink of Communion.  Yes, there were ceremonial robes (that looked suspicously like Speedos).  Yes, the was erudite, loosely biblical discussion.  And no, there were none of the Devil's tools - cell phones, lap-tops, and Power Point.

Despite high anxiety and some cases of shakes and cold sweats, the trappings of the 21st century were left behind us for six days, and we created memories the parishoners (on-premise retailers, winery and brewery representatives, and Hayden Beverage family members) will never forget.

Gratitude and genuflection go to John Graham of Stanley Kasino Club for a fitting last supper and for providing us the musical stylings of Hoodwink (led by our own Dino Dave Lane), to Idaho Wilderness company for keeping us safe and fed, to Linda and Megan who coordinated the trip with such proficiency, and to all those attended (especially my Comrades in Kayak, Settles and Petrelli, who kept me from meeting my maker).

The trip is a thank you to our retailers for their business, to our suppliers for their partnership, and to HBC family members for their dedication.
